During the National Day holiday, Professor Zhou Yushu from Inner Mongolia Honder College of Arts and Sciences published two monographs, A Study of China’s Prehistoric Rock Scripts and An Analysis of Korean Rock Art, issued by The Chinese Overseas Publishing House and China Pictorial Publishing House respectively.
A Study of China’s Prehistoric Rock Scripts selects and interprets 216 rock scripts and draws parallels with 18 pottery scripts. Within these rock symbols, the book deciphers 96 individual and composite writing symbols. This finding pushes back the origin of Chinese writing to around 6,000 years ago.

An Analysis of Korean Rock Art mainly compiles and sorts out 307 individual rock art panels from 10 rock art sites across the Republic of Korea. Adopting a multidisciplinary approach integrating archaeology, rock art studies, palaeography, geography and meteorology, it conducts focused research on the rock art sites at Cheonjeon-ri in Ulju and Bangudae. Drawing on Chinese rock scripts, oracle bone script and bronze inscriptions, the book identifies the symbolic characters on Korean rock art and classifies 34 symbols identical to those seen in oracle bone script.
